Privacy Policy

The short version

Dust Jacket is a private book tracker. Your reading data belongs to you. It lives on your device and in your personal iCloud storage. It is never sent to any server, never shared with third parties, and never used for advertising or analytics.

What data the app stores

Dust Jacket stores the reading data you enter: book titles, authors, reading status, dates, ratings, genres, series information, protagonist and author gender, notes, and cover art. None of this data is transmitted to any server other than your own private iCloud storage.

Where your data is stored

Your library is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, and synced across your devices using CloudKit — Apple's private database infrastructure. This means your data is stored in your own iCloud account and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. The developer of Dust Jacket has no access to your iCloud data at any time.

You can delete your local data at any time by uninstalling the app. To remove data from iCloud, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device.

Third-party services

When you search for a book using the in-app search, your search query is sent to the Open Library API (operated by the Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit). Open Library returns book titles, authors, and cover art for display in the app. No personal information is transmitted as part of these requests — only the text of your search query. Open Library's privacy policy is available at archive.org/about/terms.php.

Dust Jacket uses no analytics services, crash reporting tools, advertising networks, or any other third-party SDKs.

Advertising

Dust Jacket contains no advertising of any kind and does not share any data with advertising networks.

Children's privacy

Dust Jacket is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a material way, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
